Saving On Housing

Whether you rent a home or own one, a good part of your income goes toward your housing.  For someone who is renting or wanting to move, don’t limit yourself to the classified ads or referrals.  Stop to look in an area you want to live, maybe somewhere near work to save on gas and commute time or near a relative or friend.  When comparing prices, be sure to look at the length of the lease and the convenience of what is near by.

If you want to be a home owner then you have three options: purchase a home from the owner, use a real estate agent or build a new home.  Each option has its good and bad points so you must decide what works for you.  An agent can guide you through the home buying process and be able to point out the good things about the house as well as the bad. This person can also help with financing and paperwork but you will pay for this service.

Buying the home from the seller will save you money but will be more work for you. It will be up to you to know if the house is worth the asking price and so you will pay for an appraisal and an inspection. These are things that a real estate agent will have already done.
